The Colorado Judicial Department has announced the opening of the application period for fiscal year 2025-26 grants from the Court Security Cash Fund. Established in 2007, these grants aim to provide additional funding for courthouse security in state court facilities located in Colorado counties with limited resources.
The funds can be used for various purposes, including supplemental court security staffing at facilities containing a state court or probation office, acquiring security equipment or making structural improvements related to security, training local security teams, addressing miscellaneous needs associated with court security, and covering emergency needs related to court security. However, there are specific restrictions on the use of these funds. They cannot be used for architectural services, non-security-related construction, firearms or other weapons, POST certification training, computers and computer servers unless part of a security system, equipment not clearly identified as having a court security purpose, vehicles, ADA compliance issues unrelated to security, or emergency lighting already mandated by a Fire Marshall.
Grants are awarded based on a priority schedule set by statute. To qualify as highest priority for grants, counties must meet at least two out of four criteria: having a total population below the state median; per-capita income below the state median; property tax revenues below the state median; and a population living below the federal poverty line above the state median. Forty counties that meet at least two of these criteria receive top priority for grant awards.
Approximately $2.5 million is available from the Colorado Court Security Cash Fund this fiscal year. Interested applicants must submit their applications through AmpliFund, the Office of the State Court Administrator’s grant management system. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
