Judge Robert W. Wedemeyer is marking 25 years of service on the Court of Criminal Appeals, Middle Section in Tennessee. Reflecting on his tenure, Judge Wedemeyer shared his thoughts, stating, "It’s been a great honor and privilege to serve in the Tennessee judiciary, and I cannot believe these years have gone by so quickly." He began his judicial career as a trial judge in 1990 for Robertson and Montgomery counties.
Christy Graves, his law clerk for 22 years, praised his tutelage. "I am grateful for what he has taught us," Graves said. She highlighted his guidance in legal writing, application of the law, and maintaining professionalism and respect in the work environment.
Wedemeyer is noted for authoring more opinions than any other judge in Tennessee's history. He takes pride in his bipartisan appointments, stating, "I am proud that I was appointed by a Democrat, Ned McWherter, to the trial bench and then by a Republican, Don Sundquist, to the appellate bench."
Before his judicial appointments, Judge Wedemeyer practiced law privately from 1977 to 1990. He holds a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from the University of Memphis School of Law.
