On March 12, 2025, four individuals will graduate from the 23rd Judicial District Recovery "Drug" Court program. The ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Robert A. Christensen Justice Center in Castle Rock.
The Recovery "Drug" Court was launched in January 2025 as a new addition to Colorado's Drug Problem-Solving Courts. Participants were transferred from the 18th Judicial District, with cases originating in Douglas, Elbert, or Lincoln counties.
This court is designed for those involved with the criminal justice system due to substance use. It aims to reduce recidivism and foster healthier communities through cost-effective measures. The drug court team engages closely with participants, offering support and accountability.
Douglas County District Court Judge Andrew Baum will oversee the graduation ceremony. He stated, “This court promotes accountability and community safety while also allowing for true change and redemption,” adding his pride in the graduates and anticipation of celebrating their recovery journey.
Since its inception, the court has followed evidence-based models effective in managing criminal cases. Its primary aim is to redirect non-violent offenders into a structured program involving urinalysis monitoring and case management, including referrals for employment and education.
