The District Court of Maryland has appointed Judge K. Christy Holt Chesser as the new administrative judge for District 4, which encompasses Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties. The appointment was made by Chief Judge John P. Morrissey in consultation with Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera and will take effect on August 16.

Judge Chesser will replace Judge Robert B. Riddle, who is retiring after serving as the District 4 administrative judge since March 1, 2008. He has been part of the Calvert County District Court since December 2005.

Expressing her gratitude for the new role, Judge Chesser stated, “I am deeply honored to have been given this new opportunity for service.” She acknowledged Judge Riddle's contributions and expressed her intention to build upon his example to ensure efficient justice delivery in the district.

Judge Chesser has been serving on the St. Mary’s County District Court since June 30, 2010. Her previous roles include county attorney for St. Mary’s County from 2006 and deputy state’s attorney from 1991 to 1998.

Chief Judge Morrissey praised both judges: “I am very grateful to Judge Riddle for his service and excellent leadership,” he said, adding that he has full confidence in Judge Chesser's ability to enhance court operations in the three counties.

Chief Judge Barbera also commended Judge Chesser's leadership skills: “Skilled leaders like Judge Chesser are vital to helping us improve the Judiciary,” she noted.
