The District Court of Maryland has announced the appointment of Judge Dorothy J. Wilson as the new administrative judge for District 8, which includes Baltimore County. This decision was made by District Court of Maryland Chief Judge John P. Morrissey in consultation with Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera. The appointment will take effect on August 1.

Judge Wilson will replace Judge Alexandra N. Williams, who is set to retire on August 1. Judge Williams began her tenure at the Baltimore County District Court on August 30, 1994, and has served as the administrative judge for District 8 since June 3, 2002.

Judge Wilson joined the Baltimore County District Court in August 2001. Her legal career began as a litigation associate with Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger, and Hollander. She has represented the Department of Social Services in cases involving termination of parental rights for severely abused and neglected children and has taught at the University of Maryland School of Social Work within a state certification program for case workers. Additionally, she practiced as an insurance defense attorney with the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund (MAIF) and served as deputy counsel with the Office of the Attorney General, overseeing litigation for the Maryland Insurance Administration.

“This is an exciting time of change and advancement for the Judiciary and the District Court,” said Judge Wilson. “I believe we can work together to champion these changes and create a promising future for District 8 and the citizens in our community. I feel very privileged to serve in this capacity, and I thank Chief Judge Morrissey for this opportunity.”

Chief Judge Morrissey expressed gratitude towards Judge Williams for her service and leadership while expressing confidence in Judge Wilson's ability to enhance court operations: “I am very grateful to Judge Williams for her service and excellent leadership, and I have every confidence that Judge Wilson will continue to improve the operations of the Baltimore County District Court,” he stated. “Judge Wilson has a proven record of leadership and management that will help us move forward to provide optimum service for the people in Baltimore County and throughout Maryland.”
