Ranje Reynolds, a 28-year-old resident of Beltsville, Maryland, has been found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder while armed. The conviction is related to the shooting of Tarek Boothe on M Street in Georgetown. U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) made the announcement.

The sentencing for Reynolds has been scheduled by Superior Court Judge Jason Park for July 25, 2025.

According to evidence presented by the government, Reynolds and Boothe were friends who had worked together at a marijuana dispensary located at 1204 Eton Court for two years as of January 31, 2022. Despite their friendship, they got into an altercation earlier that evening at their workplace. Around 6:00 p.m., Boothe left the dispensary and went to the corner of 33rd and M Street N.W., where he waited for his ride home. Reynolds followed him there and initially sat next to him before briefly leaving and returning seconds later to shoot Boothe in the eye, resulting in his death.

Reynolds fled to Jamaica on February 3, 2022, but was returned to the United States on September 15, 2022, to face criminal charges.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Natalie Hynum and Jessica Keefer.
