In recognition of National Police Week 2025, observed from May 11 to May 17, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine acknowledged the dedication and sacrifice of law enforcement personnel at all levels.

Acting U.S. Attorney Craig M. Wolff attended a memorial event on Tuesday, stating, “On Tuesday of this week I was privileged to attend the annual observance at the Maine Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.” He noted that two more officers' names were added to the memorial wall, increasing the total to 90. "The service was a poignant reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers willingly embrace each day,” Wolff added.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) reported that in 2024, 147 law enforcement officers died in duty across federal, state, tribal, and local levels. This figure represents a 25% increase compared to 2023 based on preliminary data from NLEOMF. The National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in Washington D.C. included names of 345 fallen officers this year.

President Kennedy initiated Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week in 1962 to honor those who serve and sacrifice in law enforcement roles. Peace Officers Memorial Day is specifically held on May 15 annually to commemorate those killed or disabled while serving.
