A man from Cut Bank has been sentenced to two years in prison for the assault of a 17-year-old girl. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced the sentencing of Elijah John Bullcalf, 21, following his guilty plea in December 2024 to charges of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

The case was overlooked by Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Morris. Court records revealed that Bullcalf assaulted Jane Doe on May 25, 2023. The incident began with an argument over a text message on Doe's phone. Bullcalf proceeded to bite her hand and punched her in the face, breaking her jaw.

After the attack, Bullcalf prevented Doe from getting immediate medical assistance. Instead, he took her to his house, eventually taking her to the hospital after severe pain set in. Bullcalf instructed Doe to lie about the cause of her injury, suggesting she say it was due to slipping on the porch.

Medical treatment for Doe involved the surgical insertion of two metal plates in her jaw, with one being permanent. Subsequent to the assault, Bullcalf reportedly struck Doe again in the same area, leading to further pain and bleeding.

In a recorded interview with law enforcement in March 2024, Bullcalf confessed to the assault. The U.S. Attorney's Office led the prosecution, with investigative efforts by the FBI and Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services.
