Two residents of Cedar City, Utah, have been sentenced to a combined 27 years in prison for their involvement in the overdose death of a woman who consumed a lethal dose of fentanyl they supplied.
John Parry, 40, received a sentence of 180 months, while Kimberly Dawn Hare, 34, was sentenced to 144 months. These sentences, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Ann Marie McIff Allen, follow guilty pleas by both individuals in November 2024 to charges of fentanyl distribution. Additionally, Parry and Hare have been ordered to jointly pay $4,616.08 in restitution to the victim’s estate for funeral and related expenses. Upon completing their prison terms, both will undergo three years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that in April 2024, Parry traveled to Salt Lake City to procure fentanyl, which he later sold to the victim via Hare's social media account. The victim was found deceased at a Cedar City hotel shortly after Hare delivered the pills. An investigation revealed the presence of fentanyl in two pills recovered from the scene. Toxicology results confirmed a lethal amount of fentanyl in the victim's system, along with lower levels of amphetamine and methamphetamine.
"Today, our hearts are with the loved ones of the victim," stated Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti. "No amount of imprisonment will justify the loss of life in this tragedy, but it is our hope that the sentence imposed will help them find closure and deter others from distributing this deadly drug."
The Cedar City Police Department and the Iron/Garfield/Beaver Counties Narcotics Task Force collaborated on the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Brady Wilson and Stephen P. Dent.
