John Joseph Keiper Jr., a 57-year-old resident of Lacombe, Louisiana, has been sentenced for threatening a federal employee. The sentencing took place on March 18, 2025, under United States District Judge Brandon S. Long. Keiper had pled guilty to the charge, which violated Title 18, United States Code, Section 115(a)(1)(B). The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson.
Keiper received a sentence of 17 months in prison, to be served consecutively with any other potential state sentence. Following his imprisonment, Keiper is required to undergo a 3-year term of supervised release. Additionally, he must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
The case, originating from an indictment, involved Keiper making threats of assault against an employee of the Social Security Administration (SSA). On November 6, 2023, Keiper contacted the SSA office in Lacombe, Louisiana, during which he displayed disruptive behavior and threatened the employees.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, in their work on the case. The prosecution was managed by Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell from the Violent Crime Unit.
