Two men from New York received prison sentences in connection with a violent home invasion in Rangeley, Maine, in 2016. The U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen sentenced Andre Muller, 54, to 200 months, and Robert Holland, 45, to 188 months in prison. Both are also sentenced to three years of supervised release after their prison terms. They were found guilty on November 23, 2023, following a three-day jury trial in Bangor.
The evidence presented in court revealed that in July 2016, Muller, Holland, and four others plotted to steal controlled substances from a Rangeley home. Muller traveled with Hector Munoz from New York City to meet Holland and others near Rangeley. Two coconspirators, including Munoz, entered the targeted home on July 28, 2016, armed with knives. During the robbery, the intended robbery target shot and killed one of the coconspirators. The U.S. Attorney's Office did not identify the dead conspirator as they were not charged.
Originally convicted after a five-day jury trial in August 2022, Muller and Holland were granted a new trial due to evidence of juror prejudgment. The second trial took place in November 2023.
Hector Munoz, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to robbery conspiracy on January 15, 2020, and was sentenced to time served on January 12, 2024.
Investigation of this case involved multiple agencies, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Maine State Police, Rangeley Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, and Carrabassett Valley Police Department, with support from the Maine Office of the Attorney General.
