Rossie Windham and Dylan Jemison, residents of Sylacauga, Alabama, have been sentenced for their involvement in a fraudulent scheme selling counterfeit gold and silver. Court documents revealed that they conspired with a minor to defraud victims across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
The operation began in April 2023 when the minor advertised fake precious metals on Facebook Marketplace. Claiming to have inherited these items, the minor sold them below market value. Rossie Windham aided by arranging sales and accompanying the minor during transactions until August 2023. At that point, Dylan Jemison joined the scheme.
In October 2023, after a victim from Foley, Alabama discovered purchased gold bars were fake, law enforcement set up a sting operation leading to Jemison's arrest. A search of his phone uncovered evidence of the fraud involving Windham and the minor.
The scheme resulted in over $120,000 obtained fraudulently. Although some victims received reimbursement from Windham during the conspiracy period, both he and Jemison were ordered by the court to pay $87,000 in restitution to seven unreimbursed victims. They also agreed to forfeit their illegal earnings to the United States.
The investigation was conducted by the Foley Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from Foley Coin Shop. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Bodnar prosecuted the case.
