A man from Springfield, Massachusetts, has confessed to robbing a bank in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced that Radelle Hubbard admitted to committing the crime.

Hubbard, 47, acknowledged entering a bank branch inside a supermarket on March 23, 2023. He reportedly told the tellers, “I have a gun, give me all the large bills from your drawer.” The tellers complied and handed over $2,420 in cash. They later informed the police that they did not see any firearm.

Court information revealed that after leaving the bank, Hubbard was followed by a private citizen who provided law enforcement with details of his vehicle. Massachusetts State Police identified and attempted to stop the vehicle. After an initial attempt to flee, spike strips were deployed to halt the car. Law enforcement found $2,341 in cash and a high-capacity firearm inside.

In U.S. District Court on Friday, Hubbard pleaded guilty to bank robbery charges. His sentencing is set for June 24, 2025. A federal district judge will determine his sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

Assistant United States Attorney Julie M. White is prosecuting the case. The investigation involved the FBI along with Smithfield Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.
