U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the sentencing of James D. Sutton, a 40-year-old former corrections officer from Depew, NY, for distributing child pornography. Sutton was sentenced to 100 months in prison followed by 30 years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig R. Gestring, who prosecuted the case, reported that in October 2021, Sutton used his cell phone to upload 22 video files containing child pornography to the social media platform Kik. The videos featured prepubescent minors under the age of 12 and included depictions of violence.
The investigation leading to Sutton's sentencing involved multiple agencies: the New York State Police under Major Amie Feroleto's direction, the FBI Child Exploitation Human Trafficking Task Force led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
