The New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has initiated an investigation into the death of a civilian on Staten Island. The incident occurred on March 6, 2025, following an encounter with officers from the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
In the early hours of March 6, NYPD officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a firearm at 2750 Veterans Road West. Upon arrival, officers encountered the man holding a gun. During the confrontation, officers discharged their service weapons, hitting the man. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
According to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI evaluates every reported incident where a police or peace officer might have caused a person's death through action or inaction. This includes situations where the officer is either on-duty or off-duty and whether the deceased was armed or unarmed, in custody, or incarcerated. If OSI's assessment suggests that an officer may have been responsible for causing the death, it proceeds with a comprehensive investigation.
