New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced the distribution of over $344,000 worth of baby formula to families in the Bronx. This donation is part of a larger settlement with Marine Park Distribution Inc. and its affiliate Formula Depot Inc., following an investigation into illegal price gouging during the 2022 nationwide formula shortage.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) found that both companies had raised prices significantly during the shortage, violating New York's price gouging laws. As a result, they have been required to donate $675,000 worth of baby formula by November 2025 and are prohibited from future price gouging practices.

Attorney General James stated, “Using a national emergency to raise prices on hardworking families who are struggling to find enough food for their children is despicable.” She emphasized her commitment to addressing such exploitative practices.

Sheila Duke, CEO of Roads to Success, expressed gratitude for the support: “Access to baby formula is not just a necessity; it is a lifeline for parents striving to provide for their children.” The nonprofit organization will help distribute the formula in the Bronx.

The 2022 formula shortage was triggered by manufacturing disruptions and recalls, impacting many families across New York. Marine Park and Formula Depot were found to have increased prices by more than 60 percent above legal limits during this period.

This latest donation includes over 7,500 cans of powder formula and more than 3,500 bottles of liquid formula. It follows previous donations made by Attorney General James in Rochester and other areas affected by similar issues.

Local leaders praised the action taken by Attorney General James. Senator Nathalia Fernandez commented on how this initiative turns greed into meaningful support for those exploited. Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz highlighted that this move provides essential relief for Bronx families facing hardship due to inflated pricing during shortages.

Attorney General James continues her efforts against price gouging through various settlements and initiatives aimed at protecting consumers throughout New York State.

New Yorkers can report potential price gouging concerns through an online complaint form or by calling designated hotlines provided by OAG.
