A Birmingham man has been sentenced to over four years in prison for illegal firearm possession. U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Nashville Field Division Acting Special Agent in Charge Jason Stankiewicz announced the sentencing.

U.S. District Judge Anna M. Manasco sentenced Keundre Levelle Brown, 25, to 57 months in prison after he was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The case stems from an incident on October 11, 2023, when a Birmingham Police Officer responded to a shooting at a local motel. Upon arrival, officers discovered Brown alone in a room with signs of gunfire originating from within. A search revealed a loaded Taurus G2C pistol tucked into Brown's waistband; the weapon had been reported stolen about a year prior in Birmingham. Brown's previous felony convictions—Theft of Property, Burglary, and Robbery—in Jefferson County Circuit Court prohibit him from possessing firearms.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF and the Birmingham Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney W. Lee Gilmer prosecuted the case.
