Jesus Del Orbe, a 55-year-old Dominican citizen residing in Philadelphia, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Leeson, Jr., according to Acting United States Attorney Nelson S.T. Thayer, Jr.
Del Orbe, also known as "Angel Cabrera-Santiago" and "Jesus Valdez-Del Orbe," was indicted last August and pleaded guilty in November. He had previous convictions for illegal reentry in Puerto Rico in 2017 and Texas in 2019.
The defendant was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at a tire shop in Philadelphia where he worked. Records show that Del Orbe had been deported three times before—March 1, 2016; February 20, 2018; and November 17, 2020—and did not have permission to return.
Acting U.S. Attorney Thayer commented on the case: “If you’re going to keep breaking the law, we’re going to keep prosecuting you.” He added that Del Orbe’s actions were a deliberate violation of immigration laws and reiterated the commitment to holding repeat offenders accountable.
Brian McShane, ERO Philadelphia Acting Field Office Director, stated: “The repeated illegal reentry by Jesus Del Orbe demonstrates a flagrant disregard for our nation’s immigration laws." He emphasized their ongoing collaboration with federal authorities to ensure accountability and community safety.
The investigation was conducted by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorney John J. Boscia.
