A Pittsburgh resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to fentanyl trafficking. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the indictment of Marc Anthony Smith, 36, for allegedly violating federal narcotics laws.

The indictment alleges that on or about November 9, 2024, Smith knowingly possessed with intent to distribute over 40 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl, which is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance.

If convicted, Smith faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and could be fined up to $5 million. The final sentence will depend on the severity of the offense and any prior criminal history under federal sentencing guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney Nicole Vasquez Schmitt is handling the prosecution for this case. The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to the indictment.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
