A Kansas man has admitted guilt in a case involving child pornography possession. Alexander James Rosell, 34, from Wichita, entered a guilty plea to one count of possessing child pornography.
The investigation that led to Rosell's arrest was part of an international probe into a dark web website. Authorities received reports related to IP addresses associated with a residence he had access to. During the execution of a search warrant at this location, law enforcement discovered images of child pornography on his cell phone and several laptops.
Rosell is set for sentencing on April 4, 2025. He could face up to 20 years in prison. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Wichita Police Department, and the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart is handling the prosecution.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. This program utilizes resources from federal, state, and local levels to locate and prosecute offenders who exploit children online while also focusing on identifying and rescuing victims.
