Two Brentwood, Pennsylvania residents were sentenced in federal court on January 15, 2025, for making false statements on a loan application. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced the guilty pleas and sentencing of Brennan and Angela McNally.
The couple each pleaded guilty before Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer to one count of making a false statement on a loan application. Judge Fischer sentenced them to one day in custody with the United States Marshals Service, followed by three years of federal supervised release. They were also ordered to pay $26,251 in restitution to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The court was informed that both Brennan and Angela McNally made false statements regarding Angela’s employment status and income on her residential loan application. These misrepresentations were made knowingly to influence the mortgage lending business's decision.
Judge Fischer emphasized the serious nature of their offense and its impact on lenders and the mortgage industry during sentencing.
U.S. Attorney Olshan stated, “When the McNallys lied so that they could get a federally funded loan, they put themselves above the worthy and qualified applicants for whom the funds were intended.” He expressed appreciation for the work done by the Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General in this case.
Special Agent-in-Charge Shawn Rice from HUD's Office of Inspector General commented on the scheme: “The defendants engaged in an egregious scheme to misrepresent the spouse’s employment... No one is above the law.”
Assistant United States Attorney Nicole A. Stockey prosecuted this case for the government. U.S. Attorney Olshan commended HUD's Office of Inspector General for their investigation leading to this prosecution.
