Todd Matthew Houston, a 36-year-old resident of Morgantown, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to straw purchase firearms. The proceedings took place in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Court documents reveal that law enforcement was called to investigate a domestic violence incident at a home in Morgantown involving Houston and a firearm. During the investigation, Houston was found attempting to pawn more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition. A search of the vehicle he was operating uncovered a pistol. It was determined by investigators that the firearm had been purchased by another individual in exchange for heroin. Houston is legally barred from possessing firearms due to previous felony convictions, which include domestic battery, drug trafficking, robbery, and grand larceny.
Upon completion of his prison sentence, Houston is set to undergo a supervised release period of three years.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Will Rhee. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, led the investigation. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh oversaw the case proceedings.
