The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced charges against five individuals involved in a violent home invasion robbery in Orange County, New York. The suspects, Bhupinderjit Singh, Elijaiah Roman, Corey Hall, Erik Suarez, and Divya Kumari, are accused of executing the crime on December 1, 2024.
Acting U.S. Attorney Edward Y. Kim described the incident: “Bhupinderjit Singh and his co-defendants allegedly planned and executed a violent robbery, during which four children watched as their parents were zip tied and held at gunpoint while four men ransacked their home looking for money and valuables.” He credited law enforcement partners and career prosecutors for bringing these charges forward.
According to FBI Assistant Director James E. Dennehy: “These five defendants participated in a robbery in which a firearm was brandished to gain unauthorized entry into a family’s home and steal valuable jewelry and thousands of dollars." He emphasized the violation of privacy experienced by the victims and assured continued efforts to apprehend those who use weapons to intimidate others.
The complaint filed in White Plains federal court alleges that upon entering the residence near Wallkill, New York, four defendants forced Victim-1 and his daughter inside at gunpoint. The remaining family members were subsequently restrained while the house was searched for valuables. Jewelry and approximately $10,000 were stolen from a safe after coercing Victim-1's wife to open it.
Kumari is accused of acting as a lookout during the robbery. Following their arrest today, all defendants face serious charges including Hobbs Act robbery conspiracy with potential sentences up to 20 years each. Additionally, Singh, Roman, Hall, and Suarez face charges related to firearm use during a crime of violence which could result in life imprisonment.
Edward Y. Kim acknowledged contributions from multiple law enforcement agencies including the FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force along with local police departments.
Assistant U.S Attorney David A. Markewitz is overseeing prosecution efforts for this case. It is important to note that charges remain accusations until proven guilty in court.
