Ryan Gregory Bracken, a 44-year-old resident of West Valley City, Utah, received a sentence of five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. This decision was handed down by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Ted Stewart after Bracken's conviction on charges related to making death threats.

Bracken was found guilty by a federal jury in October 2024 on four counts of stalking and one count of interstate communication of threats. His actions involved threatening the Salt Lake County Sheriff, other government offices, and a local law firm over the foreclosure of his property.

The court documents revealed that between March 20 and April 2, 2024, Bracken made specific threats against law enforcement officers and others he held responsible for the foreclosure. He described these individuals as committing "treason," which he stated deserved "death." The threats included mentions of hangings and shootings, with references to ammunition intended for use against anyone approaching his foreclosed property.

A multi-agency operation was initiated to safeguard the public from potential violence as Bracken's threats escalated. U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins emphasized the importance of citizen safety and expressed hope that victims would find solace in knowing justice had been served.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera thanked all agencies involved in concluding the investigation and highlighted the priority placed on community safety by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

HSI Salt Lake City Assistant Special Agent in Charge Brandon Crane remarked on Bracken's circumstances being self-inflicted rather than caused by those he threatened. Crane affirmed their commitment to pursuing individuals who threaten public servants fulfilling their duties.

The investigation was conducted collaboratively by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, with prosecution led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
