Attorney General Peter F. Neronha has addressed the recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by Prospect Medical Holdings. In a statement, he explained that his office was informed of the filing in the federal bankruptcy court in Dallas, Texas. Prospect's proposed plan includes selling Roger Williams and Fatima hospitals to the Centurion Foundation.

Neronha assured that Rhode Island hospitals are expected to continue normal operations despite concerns about their future. He emphasized that his office is prepared for all scenarios and has been anticipating this development for some time. "We will be in Texas to represent the interests of Rhode Islanders," he stated, with a focus on ensuring continued high-quality healthcare.

He reiterated his commitment since 2021 to keep these hospitals open and facilitate their responsible transfer to new ownership. Neronha criticized private equity ownership as "inherently destructive" and expressed hope for a better future for safety net hospitals.

Highlighting personal connections to healthcare challenges, Neronha called for real solutions from Rhode Island leadership amid current struggles. He promised further updates as more information becomes available and confirmed readiness to address the situation both locally and in Texas.
