U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez | U.S. Department of Justice

Three individuals have been charged with federal offenses related to an alleged kidnapping incident. Michael Clubfoot, Carlyn Calavaza, and Alexis Mahooty are accused of unlawfully kidnapping a woman identified as Jane Doe in 2024. The indictment claims that the three, all members of the Zuni Pueblo, held her for ransom or reward.

Michael Clubfoot faces additional charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, use of a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. He will remain in custody until his trial. Carlyn Calavaza and Alexis Mahooty will be under third-party custody until their trial date set for February 10, 2025.

U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez stated that if convicted, the defendants could face any term up to life imprisonment for the kidnapping charge. Raul Bujanda from the FBI Albuquerque Field Office joined him in making this announcement.

The investigation was conducted by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with help from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eliot Neal is handling prosecution duties.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
