The Fifteenth Judicial District Nominating Commission is set to convene on July 22, 2024, at the Kiowa County Combined Court in Eads, Colorado. The purpose of the meeting is to interview and select nominees for the position of county judge for Kiowa County. This vacancy arises due to the upcoming retirement of Judge Gary W. Davis, effective September 1, 2024.
Candidates interested in applying must be qualified electors of Kiowa County at the time of investiture and have completed high school or an equivalent education as recognized by the Department of Education. The role offers an annual salary of $36,940.80 and is a part-time position requiring a 20% commitment. Initially, county judges serve a provisional term of two years; subsequent terms last four years if approved by voters.
Application forms can be obtained from Justice Melissa Hart's office in Denver or Diane Crow's office in Lamar. They are also available online on the Careers home page. Completed applications must be submitted via email by 4:00 p.m. on July 5, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Suggestions for candidates can be made through letters addressed to any member of the nominating commission with a copy sent to the ex officio chair by June 28, 2024. According to commission rules, applicant names will be disclosed after the application period ends.
The nominating commission members include Douglas Tallman from Kiowa; Timothy Hume from Baca; Margaret Jolly from Cheyenne; and Annessa Stulp, Darla Specht, Kim Verhoeff, and Lanie Meyers-Mireles from Prowers.
