Problem-solving courts offer an alternative path through the criminal justice system specifically designed for nonviolent drug-related offenders. The aim is to lower recidivism rates and substance use among participants by using a team-based approach within the existing court framework.
"The court’s goal is to protect public safety and increase the participant’s likelihood of successful rehabilitation by utilizing validated risk and need assessments, early and individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent and random chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative and ancillary services."

This initiative falls under Nebraska's judicial system where all state courts operate under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court. In addition to constitutionally created courts like district courts and county courts, Nebraska also features separate juvenile courts in certain counties as well as a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court.
