Students from Fresno County public schools and area law schools gathered at the Court of Appeal, Fifth Appellate District in downtown Fresno on October 9 to observe the California Supreme Court in action. Some students were seen outside rehearsing questions they had prepared for this event.

This session marked the second outreach effort by the California Supreme Court under Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero, following a previous session in San Diego in 2023. The court's last visit to Fresno for oral arguments was in 2010.

Chief Justice Guerrero addressed the students, inviting them to engage with the court's seven justices by asking questions about their judicial roles, career beginnings, and advice for aspiring lawyers.

The outreach included participation from fifth-grade students from Maple Creek Elementary School. These students had previously met Chief Justice Guerrero during a visit with Administrative Presiding Justice Brad Hill to present the 2023 Civic Learning Award of Excellence. This award is co-sponsored by the Chief Justice and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Joining them were approximately 30 students from several high schools including Buchanan High School, Bullard High School, Clovis High School, Clovis North High School, Clovis East High School, Clovis West High School, Coalinga High School, Justin Garza High School, Reedley High School, Roosevelt High School, and San Joaquin College of Law.
