New York Attorney General Letitia James has released footage from an investigation into the death of Allan Hoad. The video, captured by police body-worn cameras and drones, is part of an ongoing inquiry into the events that led to Mr. Hoad's death on October 21, 2024. This incident involved officers from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Corning Police Department in Cameron, Steuben County.

The sequence of events began in the early hours when deputies responded to a 911 call at a residence on Angel Road in Cameron. Upon arrival, they encountered Mr. Hoad, who allegedly fired a shotgun at them before retreating inside. Officers negotiated with him for several hours to surrender. Eventually, Mr. Hoad emerged with what appeared to be a long gun and drove his vehicle through a field to another location. It is alleged that he then drove toward officers, colliding with a police car. In response, officers discharged their weapons as Mr. Hoad exited his vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital after being struck by gunfire.

The Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has made available drone and body-worn camera footage from the incident as part of Attorney General James' initiative to enhance transparency and public trust by releasing such materials during OSI investigations.

According to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI evaluates incidents where an officer's actions might have resulted in someone's death. This assessment applies whether the officer was on or off duty and regardless of whether the deceased was armed or unarmed or in custody.

The release of this footage does not imply any judgment regarding the criminal responsibility or innocence of any individuals involved in this case.
