Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has submitted an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court, emphasizing his dedication to defending religious liberty and school choice. The brief pertains to two cases from Oklahoma that will decide if states providing funds for charter schools can exclude those with a religious mission.

The attorneys general argue against the Oklahoma State Supreme Court's decision, which prevented a Catholic virtual charter school from operating due solely to its religious affiliation. "Religious liberty is the cornerstone of our great nation, and our coalition will stand firm as a safeguard against governments that discriminate against religious institutions," said Attorney General Marshall. He added, "We will relentlessly fight to ensure that the highest court in the land upholds the right of schools to not be denied public benefits based on religion."

This legal challenge aligns with Attorney General Marshall’s broader efforts to protect religious freedom and enhance educational opportunities. The case's outcome could have significant implications for school choice and the involvement of religious institutions in education across the country.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments on April 30. Alongside Alabama, this South Carolina-led brief is backed by attorneys general from Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas.
