The District Court of Maryland is set to implement electronic filing for failure to pay rent cases across the state through the Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) system. This new procedure will be available from January 2, 2024. Currently, e-filings are accepted in Baltimore County and Prince George’s County, with Baltimore City scheduled to join in May 2024 when MDEC becomes operational there.

Electronic filing offers a streamlined process for submitting documents, enhancing efficiency within the courts. It also allows users to file multiple cases simultaneously using certified bulk filing service providers. Information on these providers can be found on the Judiciary's MDEC e-filing and landlord-tenant webpage.

District Court of Maryland Chief Judge John P. Morrissey expressed satisfaction with the program's progress: “The launch of the E-rent program in Baltimore County in June 2022 and last month in Prince George’s County has proven to be effective and successful, and we are pleased to soon be able to offer this service statewide by the spring of 2024 when Baltimore City launches MDEC,” he said. “We are now able to advance this technology-based improvement to all jurisdictions.”
