Maryland judges are set to engage with elementary school students in a new initiative called the Reading & Robes program. This marks the first occasion where judges, donned in their official robes, will read aloud to young students. The selected books for this program focus on themes of justice, fairness, and the law, aiming to introduce these concepts to children through culturally diverse literature.
One of the highlighted readings is U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s children's book, "Turning Pages: My Life Story." In addition to this reading experience, students will receive copies of "The Highest Tribute: Thurgood Marshall’s Life, Leadership, and Legacy," further enhancing their understanding of influential figures in law and justice.
The program is scheduled to take place across several locations including Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, and Prince George's County. This initiative provides an opportunity for judges to connect with the community and inspire young minds by sharing stories that reflect significant legal principles and historical contributions.
