The Prince George’s County District Court is offering a program for high school students called Schools in the Court. Scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 9 a.m., the program will take place at Courtroom 357, Bourne Wing, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This initiative aims to educate students about the legal system and the consequences of common decisions.
Administrative Judge Lisa Hall Johnson and Judge Cheri Simpkins will preside over the event. Participants will take part in a mock traffic stop to witness the legal outcomes of poor decisions. The program will provide students the opportunity to interact with police officers, K-9 units, public defenders, state attorneys, and judges. There will be discussions on the dangers of fentanyl and its effects on juveniles.
The students are also invited to engage in a question-and-answer session with judges and court personnel. To attend or inquire about the program, the Maryland Judiciary, Government Relations, and Public Affairs Division can be contacted at [email protected] or 410-260-1488. Cameras will be permitted during the program, though not during the court docket segment. The event will be canceled if there's a delayed school opening or closure.
