High school students from Baltimore will showcase their artistic talents on April 4 at a reception hosted by Courting Art Baltimore. This annual event, now in its fourth year, aims to highlight student artwork under the theme "Uplift Baltimore." The reception will be held at Baltimore City Community College.
Courting Art Baltimore serves to connect the legal community with local residents and beautify courthouses to reduce stress for visitors and litigants. The artwork of the finalists will later be displayed at the Eastside District Court Building on May 15 during an awards ceremony. Scholarships totaling $20,000 are available for the top five contestants, with a first-place prize of $7,500 earmarked for art programs or post-secondary education.
Judge Halee F. Weinstein, along with other prominent figures such as Brian D. Katzenberg and Carrie Williams, co-chairs of the Baltimore Association of Baltimore City, will be present at the event. Chan'nel Howard from Baltimore City Public Schools and Melvin Brooks from Baltimore City Community College are also among those involved in this initiative.
Students participating come from ten different schools within the city: Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts, Baltimore City College, and others including Western High School and Reginald F. Lewis High School.
The reception is open to attendees who have coordinated with Maryland Judiciary’s Division of Government Relations and Public Affairs via email.
