Courting Art Baltimore is set to host its second annual art contest for local high school students. The event will take place on Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Eastside District Court Building. This year's program offers scholarships toward art programs or post-high school degrees for the top five student entries, with a first-place scholarship of $5,000.
High school students in Baltimore were encouraged to submit two-dimensional artwork based on the theme "We are Baltimore." Alongside the scholarship awards, additional prizes include gift certificates for art supplies. The submitted artworks have been professionally reproduced and will be displayed long-term at the Baltimore City Eastside District Courthouse.
The initiative is led by several organizations including the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore City; the Baltimore Bar Foundation, Inc.; and the Bar Association of Baltimore City. It operates in partnership with Baltimore City Community College and Baltimore City Public Schools. The program draws inspiration from a similar initiative by the Montgomery Bar Association in Pennsylvania focused on artwork by senior citizens.
Judge Halee F. Weinstein of the Baltimore City District Court will preside over the event.
