Anne Arundel County District Court will celebrate the graduation of participants from its Adult Drug and DUI Treatment Court on Thursday, May 12. The event marks the 19th year that the program has celebrated National Drug Court Month with a graduation ceremony.
The ceremony will take place at Anne Arundel County District Court, with Judge Thomas J. Pryal presiding over the event. Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford is scheduled to deliver the keynote address to graduates and their guests. Program alumna Amber Simms will also speak at the event.
The treatment court program, which began in 1996, provides judicial oversight combined with intensive treatment and supervision for drug-related offenses. A DUI component was added in 2005. Since its inception, more than 1,000 individuals have successfully completed the program, with a reported 75 percent remaining arrest-free.
The graduation will be held at Anne Arundel County District Court's Courtroom 4 located at 251 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD.
Members of the media are invited to attend and are asked to contact the Maryland Judiciary Office of Communications and Public Affairs for further information or questions regarding attendance.
