The Supreme Court of Georgia has announced the new class of term law clerks for the 2024-25 year. These clerks, who will serve for one year, are tasked with assisting Justices through legal research, drafting and reviewing opinions, and preparing for oral arguments.

The program is now in its seventh year and aims to invest in future leaders of Georgia's legal community by providing them with intensive training in legal research and writing. The current class includes graduates from various law schools, many with prior experience as federal court clerks or interns.

Chief Justice Michael P. Boggs remarked on the new cohort: “This cohort of term clerks is impressive, and each one has started ready to gain hands-on experience in appellate practice.” He expressed confidence that these individuals would go on to have successful careers in law.

Among this year's term clerks are Amanda Graham from the University of Georgia School of Law, Stephen Greenway from Mercer University School of Law, Elliza Guta also from Mercer University School of Law, Briana Hayes from the University of Georgia, Pierce Ostwalt from Samford University's Cumberland School of Law, Jake Shatzer from the University of Georgia School of Law, Justin Tilghman also from UGA's law school, and Alexis Watson from UGA as well.

Each clerk brings a unique background ranging from previous military service to extensive moot court competition experience. They will be working under various justices including Carla Wong McMillian, Sarah Hawkins Warren, Nels S.D. Peterson, Verda M. Colvin among others.

The Supreme Court’s clerk program was initiated in 2018 with backing from the Georgia General Assembly. Each justice selects their own term clerk annually.
