North Dakota Supreme Court seeks applicants for rural attorney program

The North Dakota Supreme Court is now accepting applications from counties and municipalities for the Rural Attorney Recruitment Program.

Established by the legislature in 2021, the program aims to increase the number of attorneys living and working in rural North Dakota. The state of North Dakota, the State Bar Association of North Dakota, and participating communities each contribute funds to retain an attorney in an eligible community for a five-year period. To qualify, a county must have a population of 16,000 or fewer, and a municipality must have a population of 5,000 or fewer.

The deadline for counties and municipalities to apply is 5 p.m. central time on December 18, 2024.
