Five candidates apply for district court judge in Nebraska's Tenth Judicial District

Melodie T. Bellamy of Kearney, Matthew C. Boyle of Grand Island, Dale T. Callahan of Hastings, Timothy E. Hoeft of Holdrege, and John A. Sauder of Holdrege have submitted applications for the position of District Court Judge in the 10th Judicial District. This district includes Adams, Clay, Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps, and Webster counties.

The judicial vacancy arises from the retirement of Judge Terri S. Harder. The primary office location for the new judge will be either Hastings in Adams County, Minden in Kearney County, or Holdrege in Phelps County at the discretion of the appointed judge.

A public hearing by the Judicial Nominating Commission is scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Adams County Courthouse in Hastings. During this session, all applicants will be interviewed.

The Constitution of Nebraska distributes judicial power among several courts including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, district courts, and county courts—all operating under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court. Additionally, Nebraska's judicial system includes separate juvenile courts in Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy Counties as well as a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court.
