The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida organized a public outreach event in collaboration with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) to address crimes targeting senior citizens. The event took place on May 15, 2025, at Century Village in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

The forum included participation from various organizations such as the FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Florida’s Office of Financial Regulation, Broward State Attorney’s Office, Wilton Manors Police Department, and AARP Florida. The discussions focused on common fraudulent schemes that affect senior citizens, including investment fraud and lottery and inheritance scams. Additionally, a panel comprising local law enforcement shared examples of fraud and abuse cases.

This initiative is part of the Elder Justice Initiative by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.
