A Mexican national has been sentenced to a total of 24 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally reentering the United States. The individual, Geraldo Maya-Gonzalez, had previously been deported on three occasions. Chief United States District Judge Andrew P. Gordon sentenced him to 18 months in prison on Thursday. On Friday, United States District Judge James C. Mahan added an additional consecutive six months for violating the terms of his supervised release related to a 2018 conviction for the same offense.
Court documents reveal that immigration officials found Maya-Gonzalez on January 27, 2021. His previous deportations occurred around March 3, 2011; June 5, 2012; and July 26, 2019. He entered ICE custody in 2024 after serving a state sentence for drug trafficking.
Maya-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States, marking his third conviction for this offense.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke.
The case was investigated by the ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
