Attorney General Pamela Bondi has appointed Theodore S. Hertzberg as the Interim United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. This appointment is in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 546, which allows the Attorney General to appoint a United States Attorney when the position is vacant. The appointment became effective on May 13, 2025, and Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr. administered Mr. Hertzberg’s oath of office on May 14, 2025.
Mr. Hertzberg has an extensive background with nearly ten years of experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He began his career with the Justice Department at the Savannah headquarters of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia, where he handled cases involving violent criminals, drug dealers, fraudsters, and money launderers while also leading the asset forfeiture section.
In 2018, Mr. Hertzberg moved to Atlanta and joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. There he focused on prosecuting gang leaders, child sex predators, gun traffickers, armed felons, and other dangerous offenders.
Before his tenure at the Department of Justice, Mr. Hertzberg practiced law at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP in New York and served as a law clerk to Honorable Kristi K. DuBose of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.
U.S. Attorney Hertzberg holds degrees from Amherst College and New York University School of Law.
