Problem-solving courts provide an alternative path through the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders. These courts employ a specialized team process within the existing court structure to reduce recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. The approach aims to protect public safety while increasing participants' chances of successful rehabilitation.
The court uses validated risk and need assessments alongside early and individualized behavioral health treatment. Participants undergo frequent and random chemical testing and receive incentives or sanctions as part of their rehabilitative process.
Doug Stanton serves as the North Central Problem-Solving Court Coordinator and can be contacted for interviews or additional information at (402) 340-3461.
The Nebraska judicial system operates under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court. It includes several courts established by both constitutional mandate and legislative action, such as juvenile courts in specific counties and a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court.
