Sonia Miller, a 54-year-old former postal employee from New Orleans, has been sentenced following her guilty plea to stealing contents from U.S. mail. The sentencing was carried out by United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown on April 24, 2025. Miller received a sentence of three years probation and was ordered to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The court documents revealed that the theft occurred around March 14, 2023. Miller unlawfully removed items from several parcels of mail entrusted to her in her capacity as a postal employee.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Postal Service's Office of the Inspector General in handling this case. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit.
