A Mexican national has pleaded guilty to using a social security number illegally to obtain a Louisiana driver's license. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Jose Guadalupe Munoz-Perez, aged 46, admitted guilt on April 29, 2025. The charge is in violation of Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

Munoz faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine reaching $250,000. A mandatory special assessment fee of $100 is also applicable. Sentencing is scheduled for June 5, 2025, under United States District Court Judge Wendy B. Vitter.

Court documents reveal that on July 24, 2020, Munoz applied for the renewal of a Louisiana driver's license at a Public Tag Agency in Jefferson Parish using another person's name and social security number. This agency processes vehicle-related transactions for the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles.

The Social Security Administration verified that the number used was legitimately issued to an individual in Puerto Rico. Munoz acknowledged his intent to deceive others by falsely claiming the name and social security number were assigned to him by the Commissioner of Social Security.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations along with the Social Security Administration's Office of the Inspector General for their roles in investigating this case. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
