A former resident of Orange County, Darius Moore, has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for his involvement in receiving kickbacks from sober living homes and for firearms trafficking. Moore, 31, formerly from Santa Ana and most recently from North Carolina, was sentenced by United States District Judge Josephine L. Staton.

Moore pleaded guilty in November 2021 to conspiracy and solicitation concerning illegal payments for patient referrals to clinical treatment facilities. Between February 2020 and December 2020, he conspired with addiction treatment facility owners to send patients to these facilities for drug treatment, knowing that the treatment services would be billed to the patients' private health insurance. Moore received kickback payments of nearly $500,000 from these referrals.

While on pretrial release for the "body brokering" case, Moore repeatedly violated conditions, including a firearms transaction in May 2023. Subsequently, in September 2023, a grand jury in North Carolina charged Moore with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. After the case was moved to Los Angeles, Moore pleaded guilty to this charge on February 14.

Moore has been in federal custody since August 2023. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the investigation with assistance from the California Department of Insurance. Assistant United States Attorney Nandor F.R. Kiss and Trial Attorney Siobhan M. Namazi prosecuted the case.
