Marc H. Silverman, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, in collaboration with Harry Chavis, Special Agent in Charge of IRS Criminal Investigation in New England, announced the guilty plea of Analia Mountzoures in a federal tax offense case. Mountzoures, a 48-year-old business owner from East Lyme, admitted her guilt before U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport.

According to the court documents and statements, Mountzoures operated Mountzoures Cleaning, employing around ten people and serving over 200 clients across southeastern Connecticut. From the tax years 2018 to 2023, Mountzoures paid her employees in cash, failed to report their wages to the relevant authorities, did not file necessary IRS forms, and neglected to issue W-2 forms or pay federal employment taxes. This resulted in personal tax returns that heavily underreported her income and tax obligations.

An example cited in court revealed discrepancies in Mountzoures' 2023 tax return, which declared gross receipts of $12,095 with taxes before credits totaling $1,450, whereas the actual gross receipts were about $628,072 with a due tax of approximately $96,650. Mountzoures has committed to paying $380,167.60 in restitution to the IRS.

Mountzoures pleaded guilty to aiding and assisting in the filing of a false tax return, a charge that carries a potential maximum imprisonment of three years. She awaits sentencing on July 22 and has been released on a $40,000 bond.

The investigation into her activities was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service's Criminal Investigation Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher W. Schmeisser.
