Carl William Wyckoff, a 25-year-old resident of New Boston, Texas, was sentenced to 135 months in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Wyckoff was charged after traveling to Utah to sexually abuse a 12-year-old girl. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Robert J. Shelby. In November 2024, Wyckoff had pleaded guilty to the transportation of a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Court documents revealed that Wyckoff initiated contact with the minor through an online game. The interactions evolved into sexual exchanges, including images, despite Wyckoff being aware of the victim's true age. Between April 13 and April 15, 2024, he traveled from Texas to Arizona and subsequently to Utah with the victim to engage in sexual conduct.

Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah made the announcement. The investigation was conducted by the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office. Assistant United States Attorney Chris Burton prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. It involves collaboration between federal, state, and local resources to address these crimes and support the rescue of victims. More information about the initiative can be accessed at https://www.justice.gov/psc.
