A federal grand jury in Salt Lake City returned an indictment against a Honduran national residing in Utah for drug-related offenses following the seizure of 171 grams of heroin. The individual, Jose Manuel Osorio-Dominguez, 31, from West Valley City, was initially charged on April 10, 2025.

Court documents reveal that detectives from the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force began investigating the drug trafficking organization in February 2025. On April 8, 2025, they stopped a 2014 Toyota Corolla, identified Osorio-Dominguez as the driver, and found 53 grams of heroin during a search. Further investigation in Taylorsville resulted in the seizure of an additional 118 grams of heroin and $5,000. Osorio-Dominguez was subsequently taken into custody.

Osorio-Dominguez faces charges of possessing heroin with the intent to distribute. His initial court appearance has been scheduled for April 18, 2025, at 1:15 p.m. in courtroom 8.4 before a U.S. Magistrate Judge at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.

The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah. The investigation is a joint effort by the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Special Assistant United States Attorney Peter Reichman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah will prosecute the case.

This case is part of "Operation Take Back America," a nationwide initiative aiming to combat illegal immigration and dismantle transnational criminal organizations. It utilizes resources from the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods.

It is important to note that an indictment is an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
